Thirsty? How to Know When to Have a Sports Drink vs. Water! by Dr. Heidi Renner
Whether it’s for you or your kids, it’s important to know when you should go for the sports drink or just some water. If in doubt, go for the water. Sports drinks can add extra calories most of us don’t need. Drink water while:
- sitting on the couch
- during a 3-mile bike ride or run
- studying or working at a desk
Sports drinks are for when:
- you’re exercising for more than an hour
- exercising in an extreme environment such as high heat, high altitude or if it’s really cold
Sports drinks are also good if you’re an athlete who has missed a pre-workout meal.
